"She found the key to a secret garden and opened the door to her heart"

Summary:

When a spoiled English girl living in 19th century India loses both parents in a plague, she is sent back to England to live in a rural mansion. The lord is a strange old man-- frail and deformed, immensely kind but so melancholy. She wishes to discover what has caused him so much sorrow and to bring joy back to the household. It all must have something to do with the screams and wails which echo through the house at night and no one wants to talk about.

Colin appears in the last two minutes of the film - not enough to develope a memorable performance ...(video below...audio out of sync!)

Secret Garden was first telecast as a Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation.

Memorable Quotes from "The Secret Garden":

Mary: Dickon knows things no one else knows.

Betty: Morning Miss.

Mary: Who are you?

Betty: Betty, it's Martha's free day and she gone to help her mother in the country. (Mrs. Medlock walks in)

Mary: Is your toothache gone?

Betty: Toothache? (She then smiles at Mrs. Medlock) Mary: The toothache you didn't have.

Mrs. Lennox: I just have the most marvelous idea; after the governers ball why don't we go for a breakfast picnic along the river?

People at table: Oh yes, yes, I'd like that very much.

Mrs. Crawford: I don't think I should feel like a picnic after dancing all night.

Mrs. Lennox: Nonsense.

Mrs. Crawford: Besides, I shan't be going to the ball, Stephen has booked me a passage to Enlgand. He says there's some kind of plague in the provences.

Mrs. Lennox: Oh there's always some kind of plague in the provences Mrs. Crawford, I wouldn't let that stop me from going to the ball. (She rings her servant bell vigorously).

Colin: Will you stay with me Mary, please?

Mary: Well, since you said please, but if you scream once more, I'll smother you with the pillow.

Nurse: And she would too.

Nurse Boggs: I'm master Colin's nurse

Mary: Then I feel sorry for you.
