'Out of the Blue' is setup in September 1999 in order to provide an opportunity for disabled and non-disabled young people in the South of England to join forces and form a permanent young peoples' inclusive theatre company (drama for all young people, the essence of which lies in strong teamwork and respect for each individual's creativity).
"We at 'Out of the Blue' believe theatre to be one of the most important and useful mediums for the development and unification of a community. We are therefore dedicated to bringing opportunity to all members of our society, especially those who previously would never have considered performance a possibility.
Performing a text or improvising a story provides a very direct relationship to ideas: it is an opportunity to "inhabit" them, together with other people, rather than merely to "think" them, because the exploration is a shared one and the aim is ultimately to communicate what you have discovered, the process has a unique way of connecting people - a real asset to any community. I personally found the experience so valuable that I decided to make a career of it. I do not think that performance should be the preserve of a few professionals, but a possibility for everyone to grow and interact with others.
'Out of the Blue' is committed to providing this opportunity and to raising the general awareness of the need for recognition and respect for inclusive theatre as a worthwhile part of today's theatre culture."
