SWEDISH CANNES FILM FESTIVAL POSTER

SYNOPSIS

Larry Morris (Kevin Bacon) and Vince Collins (Colin Firth) are the most loved entertainers in the 50th in America. They are the classic duo – Lanny is the maniacal comedian while Vince is the cool controller. These guys know how to make an audience roar with laughter with their jokes, or cry uncontrolled at fund-raising performances. They are at the peak of their career; they are rich, powerful and enormously popular when something happens that changes everything.

A young beautiful woman is found dead in their hotel suite. Thanks to waterproof alibi, the duo manage to avoid prosecution but their reputation is ruined and also their partnership. Larry and Vince manage to rescue their individual careers when the whole matter has been stifled, but they never talk to each other again. The separation of Morris and Collins becomes one of showbiz great mysteries.

Fifteen years later, in the 70th, a young ambitious reporter, Karen O'Connor, (Alison Lohman) decides to make a scoop of this forgotten story. She gets a juicy upfront payment so she can write about Morris and Collins and she starts digging in the silenced circumstances of their division. Her research leads her into sexual and emotional involvement with both Lanny and Vince. The deeper she gets involved with these men and their story; the more reluctant she becomes to accept the frightening truth.

Where the Truth Lies is a tight, twisting "fairy tale" based on Rupert Holmes short story Where the Truth Lies, which deals with deceit, love, lust and secrets that should have remained buried.

ATOM EGOYAN                    SCRIPT and DIRECTING

Atom Egoyan was born in Cairo , Egypt, July 16, 1960 .  His parents are Armenians and the family soon moved to Canada where Egoyan grew up. He had an early interest in art and music and during his years of study in Toronto he began to search into the art of film while studying international relationship and classic guitar. Egoyan started to make his own films that in a personal way reflected his interest in different themes as intimacy, isolation and what importance technology and media has in modern life.

His feature film debut came 1984 with Next of Kin. The film was enormously well received but the broader audience was captured later in 1994 with the film Exotica who won the international critics prize in Cannes that year. In 1997 the Grand Prize of the Cannes Festivals was given to his film The Sweet Hereafter – a film that was also nominated for an Oscar and became his great international breakthrough. In 1996 Egoyan directed his first opera, Salome, for the Canadian Opera Company. He is now working for the same company, staging The Walkyrie by Richard Wagner with its opening night this fall.
